Facilities Update Term 1, 2019 Edition 4
The purpose of our Facilities Newsletters is to keep new and continuing families up to date with major planned changes in our school environment. This year promises to be a very busy year for our school. I am confident that the strong partnership between our staff, students, P&C and School Council will allow us to work through any challenges that may arise.
School Master Plan
Development within our school is guided by our school master plan. This was developed and approved during 2018. A copy of our school master plan documentation can be found on the school website. Plans are located under the “Facilities” tab at the top of the webpage.
New Building
Construction of our new 15 classroom permanent building is underway. The Singleton toilet block has been demolished and site preparation is well progressed.
Automatic gates have been installed on the oval construction road to allow for safe movement of students and vehicles. Explanations of the gate’s operations have been delivered in classrooms and on parade.
Students wait behind the marked line when the gates are closed.
Students can pass through freely when the gates are open.
A siren sounds and the above light flashes in the lead up to the gates changing position. It is very important that everyone stops and waits on the signal. If people pass through as the gates are moving this can significantly disrupt the operation of the gates.
The new building is scheduled for opening after the start of the 2020 school year. The school will continue to utilise the temporary facilities on the bottom oval until the new build is ready.
Early Years Playground
Students have voted with their feet (and hands) on the popularity of the new early years’ playground. Each play session is well attended with children eagerly exploring all they can do with the multitude of options at hand. The slide remains very popular (especially with Mrs Fender) though my favourite would be building dams with river rocks at the end of the water pump’s “creek”.
The P&C have made such a positive difference through this incredibly generous donation.

Taringa Parade “Stop, Drop and Go” Re-development
Work has commenced after what seemed a measured start. Just as the children expect our new building to appear out of the ground quickly, I sense a shared desire to see tangible action occur quickly in the zone. Thank you for your continued patience during this exercise.
The project is scheduled for completion date at the end of May, weather conditions permitting.
School staff will continue to be present at the Russell Terrace “Stop, Drop and Go” and at the crossing at the intersection of Taringa Parade and Moggill Road until the redevelopment is complete.
If you have questions regarding the redevelopment, the Brisbane City Council can be contacted on 1800 669 416 or at cityprojects@brisbane.qld.gov.au
