Facilities Update Term 2, 2019 - Edition 5

The purpose of our Facilities Newsletters is to keep new and continuing families up to date with major planned changes in our school environment. This year continues to be a very busy year for our school. I am confident that the strong partnership between our staff, students, P&C and School Council will allow us to work through any challenges that may arise.

Due to the significant building and construction on school grounds, our annual Indigo! Fair has been relocated to Moore Park this year.

School Master Plan

Development within our school is guided by our school master plan. This was developed and approved during 2018. A copy of our school master plan documentation can be found on the school website. Plans are located under the “Facilities” tab at the top of the webpage.

New Building

Our new 15 classroom permanent building is really beginning to take shape. The Level 0 footings and blockwork have been completed, and the crew are working at closing out the Level 1 void.

The next part of the development sees the installation of the Potain IGO 50 crane. This very specialised piece of equipment will be calibrated to exact specifications for the site and construction. This will be delivered and installed out of regular school hours.

We continue to seek your co-operation and assistance in using the gates on the bottom oval correctly. Brendan Dickson, site foreman, visited parades to re-iterate to the students the importance of using these gates, and to be mindful of other signage around the building site for their own safety and the safety of others.

Students wait behind the marked line when the gates are closed.

Students can pass through freely when the gates are open.

A siren sounds and the above light flashes in the lead up to the gates changing position.

Tennis Courts Upgrade

Thank you to the P&C for securing a Brisbane City Council grant to assist with the upgrade of the tennis courts. This upgrade and refurbishment will commence during the coming vacation period and will include improved surfacing and lighting. The P&C are also improving the area between the courts and Moggill Road to enhance the works being done as part of the grant. Thank you to the P&C for their continued dedication to our school and students.

Taringa Parade “Stop, Drop and Go” Re-development

The re-development of the new Taringa Parade ‘Stop, Drop, Go’ zone continues, with a revised date for completion being late June to early July, with the asphalt works having commenced on 24th June.

We thank you for your continued patience with this project. The BCC will have staff available to advise and monitor driver behaviour when the area opens, and have advised that there will continue to be checks from BCC to ensure safe and correct use of the zone.

A new pedestrian crossing with signage is now operational on Taringa Parade, past the school. Please ensure that you are aware of the parking regulations near this area, as per the signage.

BCC have also advised that the crossing on Woodville Street will be sited for increased visibility.

School staff will continue to be present at the Russell Terrace “Stop, Drop and Go” and at the crossing at the intersection of Taringa Parade and Moggill Road until the redevelopment is complete.

If you have questions regarding the redevelopment, the Brisbane City Council can be contacted on 1800 669 416 or at cityprojects@brisbane.qld.gov.au
