Principal's Message

As Mrs Spanner kindly mentioned last week, I will be serving as Acting Principal here at ISS for the next six weeks. I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself more fully.
I’ve had the privilege of being the Principal at Mount Crosby State School for the past four years. Prior to that, I led a number of small and medium-sized schools across Queensland for over two decades. My journey in education began 34 years ago as a primary school teacher, and throughout my career, I’ve remained deeply committed to Queensland State Schools. I truly value the inclusive, high-quality education they provide to all students.
In just a short time here at ISS, I’ve been thoroughly impressed by the professionalism of the staff, the high standard of teaching and learning in every classroom, and the shared commitment to the school’s improvement agenda. It’s clear there’s a strong culture of striving for excellence—and of pride in this wonderful school community.
This week, students have completed their assessments, and report cards will be distributed via email and QParents next Thursday. Please note, there has been a small change to the wording used to describe the five-point scale on report cards.
There are several key events coming up next week:
• P&C Meeting – Monday at 6:00pm (school library or via Teams)
Everyone is welcome! This is a great opportunity to get involved in the life of the school and have your say.
• Colour Run – Saturday at 2:00pm
A highlight of the term! I’m looking forward to joining in the fun with students and families.
• Under 8’s Morning – Thursday 9:00am - 11:00am
Our Prep to Year 2 students will take part in a range of exciting and engaging activities.
• Free Dress Day – Friday
Students are invited to wear free dress in exchange for a gold coin donation to support the Year 6 graduation celebrations.
Thank you for the warm welcome I’ve received so far—I look forward to getting to know more of you over the coming weeks.
