Year 6 Working Collaboratively

One of the highlights of last term was time spent with our younger buddies during their Under 8s Morning. The Year 6 students showed care, patience, and responsibility as they supported and connected with their younger peers — a wonderful example of the positive role models they are becoming.

Now, as we begin a busy and exciting Term 3, there is a lot to look forward to, and it will surely be full of memorable moments. We have hit the ground running in 6A and can be seen engaging in one of our regular collaborative activities, Building Thinking Classrooms. This routine has become a valuable process for developing our problem-solving skills, teamwork skills and engaging in deep mathematical thinking.

With new goals to set and new concepts to work on, we are all looking forward to the term ahead.

Year 3 Accelerated Reader Awards

In Year 3, students use Accelerated Reader to support their reading. The Accelerated Reader program helps students choose books that are appropriately challenging for their reading level and motivates them to achieve their reading goals. At the end of Term 2, all Year 3 students who reached their reading goal received an Accelerated Reader certificate from Ms Bliss. 3B and 3H worked so hard on their reading that every student was able to reach their goal and receive a certificate.

Book Battle (Who’s smarter? Students vs adults)

We’re excited to share the details of a parent-led reading initiative .

Year 3 students and their guardians are encouraged to sign up to Book Battle.

What is the activity? Book Battle is a shared reading activity for Year 3 students and their caregivers. The battle begins when we choose two books that students and their adult will read together at home. After reading, we’ll meet on the battle field (the school library) for a fun, student-versus-adult, book trivia quiz.

When: Sign up in Week 2, Term 3

Reading at home between Week 3 -Week 7

            Book Battle Wednesday, Week 7- 27th August 4:30 - 6pm

Where: Book Battle to be held at ISS library

Why?: This initiative aims to encourage adults to model reading to children at home. In a recent report by Australia Reads, 83% of children model their reading behaviour from their trusted adult. If you are passionate about improving childhood literacy, you enjoy reading, talking about books and supporting the ISS community, then this book club might be for you.
