Vocabulary Matters: P-2

At Indooroopilly, vocabulary is explicitly taught across all year levels because we know the power of words to build understanding, spark curiosity and support confident communication. In Prep to Year 2, students are engaging in rich, text-based units built around high-quality picture books full of interesting and sophisticated language.

Ask your child about the words they’re exploring — you might hear terms like sneaky, pounce, influence or notorious! These words help students think more deeply, describe more precisely, and build a stronger understanding of the world around them.

P–2 students are also learning how to share an opinion or preference respectfully, giving reasons for their thinking. So, if your child is suddenly offering strong opinions or trying to convince you of their point of view — take it as a sign of learning in action! (Within reason of course!)
