Name it to tame it
In recent weeks, during Resilience Project lessons, 2G have been learning how identifying and naming our emotions helps us begin to gain a sense of control over them. We practised naming emotions in a game of Bingo. Students acted out different emotions and thought about what their bodies felt like and what facial expressions they had when they were feeling these emotions.




We thought about what strategies would help us to ‘tame’ these emotions when they overwhelm us. For example, we could take deep, slow breaths for a while; or we could listen to music, or draw or write about our feelings; or we could meditate, squeeze a pillow, or think of things we experience with our five senses such as things we love the taste or smell of…
