Reverse Garbage Incursion

Last Thursday, 4C students attended the reverse garbage incursion as part of our integrated Design Technologies and Science unit. Students were given a design brief to create a marble run, utilising different materials and various forces to make it work. Each group came prepared with a design, and armed with flexible thinking in order to problem solve any issues encountered during the testing phase.

Year 4 Book Week Reflections

4B – Book Week is one of, my favourite days in the entire year! It’s full of fun it celebrates literature with a big parade.

4C – It was a fun day with a lot of creative work.

4D – Book Week is one of my favourite celebrations of the year because you get to dress up as a character from a good book!

4D – I really like how everybody dressed up and had a good time.

4E – Book Week was fun because of all the people who dressed in costumes.

4F – Everybody’s costumes were very different, and the preps had very good class ideas.

4H – The parade was colourful, fun and exciting, there were great costumes, and the parade had a fun, loud and happy atmosphere.

4I – Book week was fun because we got to dress up as any character from a book.

Fishing for Frogs – Year 5 dives into the science of refraction

This term in Science, Year 5 have been exploring light and how it changes.  This week students have been studying refraction - how light bends when it travels through different materials like air and water.

After learning about how First Nations peoples use the knowledge of refraction to aid in spearfishing, students in 5C and 5E conducted their own spearfishing experiment…with a fun twist.

Students working in small groups placed a frog lolly in a clear container filled with water.  First, they made predictions about what they would see when looking straight down at the frog and what would happen if they looked at if from an angle.  They quickly discovered that the position of the frog appeared to change depending on their viewpoint – thanks to refraction.

Next came the challenge: spearing the frog with a skewer! It wasn’t as easy as it looked.  The bending of light made the frog appear to be in a different position, making accurate ‘spearfishing’ quite the task.

This hands-on experiment not only helped students understand how light behaves in water, but also gave them insight into how scientific knowledge has been applied by cultures throughout history.

Attention Current Year 5 Families

Year 6 2026 Senior Polo Pre-Order is now available!

Current Year 5 students are welcome to pre-order their Year 6 2026 Senior Polo shirts. The shirt may be worn as an alternative to the standard uniform on any school day and makes an ideal memento as a signature shirt for the students to keep in the future. The shirts distinguish Year 6 students as senior members of the school whom the other students can easily identify and approach for assistance.

The shirts are optional, but the students take great pride in wearing them in their final year of primary school.
