Kindy to School Transition

The transition from Kindy to Prep is such an exciting time! This week, I have had a wonderful time visiting centres and talking with parents about school readiness.

Sometimes parents feel pressure to focus on teaching sounds, numbers, and curriculum concepts before school begins – but that’s our job once your child starts Prep. What’s most important right now are the everyday skills that come from play and interaction: recognising their own name, noticing patterns and ‘maths’ in nature, asking and answering questions, listening to and talking about stories, running and climbing at the park, and building hand strength by picking things up and moving them around. In short – lots of play, talking, and enjoying time together!

Over the next few months, bring your child along to Story Time sessions and book into the Term 4 Student Play and Parent Workshops. These opportunities help children become familiar with our Prep Precinct. Without question, the best gift you can give your child before they start school – and beyond – is simply being present, listening, and sharing precious moments.
